2. Drag and Drop Funnel Builder
The drag ‘n drop funnel builder is the heart and soul of Funnelytics. You get access to it in both the Pro and Basic versions.
Using it is so intuitive that you almost don’t need any instructions, but just incase, here you go…
First, let’s walk through creating your first funnel just so you get a feel for it.
How to Create Your First Funnel
This is what your Funnelytics dashboard looks like:
Click the “Create a Project” button in the top left corner and enter the name of your project.
You project name will appear in the left sidebar.
Select your project name in the sidebar and click the “Create Funnel” button in the top right corner of your screen.
Name your funnel.
Congratulations! You’ve created your first funnel!
Designing Your First Funnel from Scratch
This is what your blank funnel map looks like.
On the left you can view your icon options:
Pages: Choose from a Opt In, Order Page, Sales Page, Sales Video, Survey and 10 other types of pages.
Traffic: These icons represent your traffic source and are where you’ll attach your UTM parameters for tracking. There are icons for Facebook ads, Adwords, banner ads, LinkedIn and 18 other traffic sources.
Actions: Action icons represent the type of user activity you want to track with Google Tag Manager. Choose between Purchase, Watch Video, Add to Cart, Complete Form and four other unique actions.
Offline: Offline icons represent parts of your sales funnel that take place outside of the internet such as…

Templates: Whatever templates you create or import will show up here.
Now that you have a lay of the land, it’s time to drag those icons out onto the map and start making you funnel dreams into a reality.
Designing Your Funnel
To get started, click and drag a traffic source icon out onto the map.
Then grab the pages that you want to include in your funnel and arrange them to you liking.
As you drag the pages out and position them, they’ll automatically link to each other in the order that you lay them down.
If you want to unlink a pair of icons, click on the icon where the arrow begins. A set of buttons will appear below the icon.
Click on the far right “link” button to break the link.
The traffic source icon will not automatically link to the first page in the funnel. To link it, click on the traffic source icon.
Click the “link” icon that appears on the far right.
Hold and drag your cursor until the arrow makes contact with the page that you wish to link to.
To set conversion and revenue goals for a page, click on the icon and then select the “alarm clock” button that appears below the icon.
A sidebar will pop up on the right side of the screen where you can enter the goal name, the target value, and select the type of goal:

3. Track and Analyze User Flow
All the funnel mapping we just covered occurs in the “Map” setting.
To switch to “Analyze” mode, click on the button highlighted at the top of the screen in the image below:
Your traffic and conversion metrics will magically appear!
This is my favorite part of Funnelytics!
Later I’ll show you how to connect these metrics to an active campaign.
Below is a screenshot of an active campaign:
You get to see how customers flow from your ads (traffic source) and through every phase of your marketing funnel.
In the above example, 5 of the original 1000 visitors made it to the final page of the funnel.
Often times the slightest changes to your sales copy can make a big difference when it comes to conversion rates.
With Funnelytics, you get to see exactly where customers are dropping off so that you can strengthen weak pages in your funnel.
4. Track External Traffic Sources
You can track and analyze external traffic to your funnels and pages with UTM tagging.
What are UTMs?

What is a UTM?
UTM stands for Urchin Traffic Monitor.
When you attach UTM codes to the end of a website URL, it creates a unique tracking code.
Anytime a user clicks a link on your site, the tags are sent to Funnelytics so that you can track the activity.

How to Link a Traffic Icon to a UTM Code
When you connect a traffic icon to your UTM code, the icon will automatically be updated with traffic analytics from the page!
When you create your map in Funnelytics, make sure to connect the traffic icon to the page icon and not the other way around.
Here’s what I mean:
To connect the Facebook icon to the page link, click on the traffic icon. Then click the “link” button that appears underneath the Facebook icon and drag the arrow to the page that you want to track traffic to (in the image above this is the “Opt In” page).
Now enter your UTM parameters. Here’s how:
- Click on the Facebook icon.
- Click on the pencil icon that appears below the Facebook icon.
3. Enter the UTM parameters in the sidebar that pops up on the right side of the screen.
4. Save your funnel link and copy it to use in your advertisements. Don’t enter the link in the traffic source. The traffic source pulls the link automatically.
UTM Tracking Spreadsheet
Funnelytics has a UTM tracking spreadsheet that you can use to manage the tracking links in your campaigns.
Use this spreadsheet as a guide. The majority of the spreadsheet cells are locked, so don’t mess around with the text or formulas.
Use the password “funnelyticsrocks” if you decide that you need to unlock some of the cells.
You’ll need to make a copy of the spreadsheet and add it to your own Google account. Funnelytics requests that you don’t ask for editing access.
5. Using Google Tag Manager to Analyze User Engagement
Google Tag Manager is a tool developed by Google to manage your tags.
It acts as a hub through which you can install tracking analytics scripts, including those from Funnelytics!
By using Google Tag Manager with your WordPress website, you can track user engagement with individual elements on your pages including:
- Button clicks
- Video view percentages
- Page scroll percentages
Here’s how to install Funnelytics script in Google Tag Manager:
Step 1: Installing Google Tag Manager
First off, you’ll need to install Google Tag Manager if you haven’t already. With WordPress websites, you can do this using a plugin like DuracellTomi’s Google Tag Manager for WordPress or Insert Headers and Footers.
Google Tag Manager comes with two code snippets: one for the <head> section and one for the end of the <body> section of your website.
You can find these codes by clicking on the “Container ID” at the top of your Google Tag Manager page pictured below:
When you click on the “Container ID,” two code snippets will display like the ones pictured below:
Either of the recommended WordPress plugins will tell you exactly where to place these pieces of code.
Step 2: Installing Funnelytics Script with Google Tag Manager
Now that Google Tag Manager is successfully installed, it’s time to install the Funnelytics script so that you can start tracking!
- Open your project in Funnelytics.
- Click on the settings tab.
3. Copy the script.
4. Head back to Google Tag Manager and add a new tag. Make sure it’s set to fire on all pages.
Funnelytics script will now fire on all pages of your website!
Now that Funnelytics script is installed for all pages of your site, let’s learn how to start tracking unique actions with Funnelytics.
How to Track Button Clicks Using Google Tag Manager:
You can use Google Tag Manager to track all sorts of user activity.
When everything’s all set up, you’ll be able to harvest juicy data, like how often users click on specific elements of a page.
In your Funnelytics map, the data will look something like this:
The main call-to-action (CTA) button on this page was clicked 21 times out of 316 visitors.
Unfortunately, activating this tracking feature requires some “developer skills.” The Funnelytics crew is currently hard at work coming up with an easier solution.

6. Tracking Revenue
Funnelytics Pro shows you the revenue you’ve made from each phase of your funnel and over the course of your entire campaign.
Funnelytics doesn’t yet integrate with payment carts, but they’re developing this ability as we speak.
Luckily, they’ve thought up a clever work-around for the time being.
Rather than linking directly to your payment processor, you can set goals on specific pages in your funnel and attribute a price to each of your products.
Let’s say you have a $137 product. Any user who visits that confirmation page for that product is assigned a $137 value, which is essentially the same as linking to your payment processor.
Funnelytics Support & Documentation
I’ve found detailed explanatory videos and articles for many of the more technical aspects of setting up Funnelytics’ tracking features.
They always note when the article was last updated so you can be sure it’s relevant.
Funnelytics has chat support, but unfortunately, it’s not available 24/7, so if you’re on the other side of the world from their headquarters in Toronto it could take awhile to hear back from them.
The staff is highly motivated to help troubleshoot issues.
They’re still in the BETA testing, so they’re stoked to iron out the kinks.
The support team is always grateful when you point out something that isn’t running smoothly.
