At the end of this article, you’ll have a chance to leave your opinion about RightMessage and any thoughts you have about this review, so stick around for that.
This is an extensive in-depth RightMessage review.
You’ll find the table of contents below for easy navigation to the parts the the article that most interest you.
Let’s get started!
What Is RightMessage?
RightMessage is a website personalization software that allows you to better understand your audience so that you can always display the perfect content.
It continuously pulls data from visitor behavior to create smarter customer segments.
Brennan Dunn, creator of RightMessage, has been in the freelance game for roughly seven years.
Like a lot of first-time freelancers, he started out doing gigs on the side. But it wasn’t long before his “side gig” expanded to 11 full-time employees, an office downtown, and big-name clients all around the world.
Now he has tens of thousands of subscribers to his weekly newsletter and makes his living providing great software to freelancers and online businesses.
RightMessage ensures that you show the right content to the right person at the right time.
Here’s a short video on how to use RightMessage to personalize with ConvertKit:
RightMessage takes all the hard-earned customer data from email campaigns and pools them together into one continuously learning database.
Your sales funnel has never been wiser!
How Does RightMessage Work?
RightMessage allows you to personalize websites of all types:
- WordPress (you can use it with a builder like Thrive Architect)
You can manage multiple websites from a single RightMessage account so there’s no need for multiple logins.
All you have to do is install their script in your template or with Google Tag Manager and it’ll be ready to go.
If something goes wrong with installing the script in your site, RightMessage will diagnose the problem and notify you immediately.
RightMessage does all the hard thinking for you.
All you have to do is think of segments that are relevant to your funnels, design the funnels, then sit back and let RightMessage do its thing.
RightMessage will figure out which visitors fit into which segments and will serve them the ideal content based on your settings.
Never again will visitors be bothered with call-to-actions, images or testimonials that don’t apply to them.
Is RightMessage Right For Me?
According to research by the marketing platform Marketo, roughly two-thirds of online customers expect their user experience to be personalized.
RightMessage is right for any online business owner who serves audiences from a variety of demographics, backgrounds or industries.
Tom Morkes from TomMorkes.com used RightMessage to increase his registration page conversion rate by 47%, leading to thousands of dollars in new sales overnight for his virtual summit.
Even Pat Flynn uses RightMessage to segment his audience at Smart Passive Income.
Here he is using the RightAsk feature:
“RightMessage finally removes the marketer’s biggest barrier to personalization — heavy reliance on an engineering team — and gives marketers greater control than ever to create a resonant, high-converting experience.”Claire Suellentrop, Co-founder of Forget the Funnel

The Ultimate RightMessage Review
It’s time to explore all the features that RightMessage has to offer your online business.
Like Claire Suellentrop of Forget the Funnel says, “For marketers ahead of the curve…the challenge now has not been ‘why’ to focus on personalization, but ‘how.’”
RightMessage provides the answer to this question.
Here are some of my favorite features…
My Personal Favorite RightMessage Features
RightMessage can turn you into a funnel optimization superhero.
And you don’t have to be a tech wizard.
These are some of my favorite features:
- RightBar allows you to create unique call-to-actions for segments depending on where they are in your sales funnel. The custom CTAs automatically load in a sticky bar at the top of your landing page.
- With RightAsk, you’re able to gather new data from your visitors by asking them relevant questions in a popup on the page. RightAsk tracks the info you already have about a given visitor, so you never ask questions that you already know the answer to.
- RightMessage’s ROI reports allow you to automatically see the difference the software is making in your revenue.
- RightMessage’s Campaign Recipes show you exactly how effective each phase of your funnel is at converting visitors to subscribers and subscribers to buyers.
Review Of RightMessage Key Features & Benefits
The level of personalization that RightMessage achieves replaces the work of full-time developers.
No coding required!
Implementing it doesn’t even eat up a ton of time.
Using RightMessage to Personalize Virtual Summits and Affiliate Campaigns
You can use RightMessage to increase the number of people who attend your virtual summit.
Hosting a virtual summit can have several massive benefits for your online business:
- It’s one of the fastest ways to establish yourself as an authority in your industry
- Build a quality email list FAST.
- Generate revenue by charging for “all-access passes” to the event.
- And much more!
As the host of a virtual summit, you bring together industry experts for interviews and broadcast it to your subscribers.
Think of a webinar on steroids.
In the following video, RightMessage founder Brennan Dunn shows you how to use RightMessage to get more subscribers to your virtual summit:
Promote the summit by asking your guest speakers to advertise the event to their audience.
They become your army of affiliate salesmen.
As a “thank you” for helping you sell tickets to your event, you give them an “affiliate commission,” or a percentage of the sales that they drive your way.
Where does RightMessage come into the mix?
Use RightMessage to increase sales by personalizing the summit registration page according to which affiliate refers them.
You provide each of your affiliates with a custom affiliate link so that you can track where your visitors are coming from.
If Pat Flynn is your affiliate, then you can hit any visitors coming from his site with content that is tailor-made for his audience.
Conversions will skyrocket!
Here’s how Tom Morkes used RightMessage to hype up the launch of his virtual summit: $100k Launch School.
Tom gave each of his guest speakers a unique affiliate link to use while they promoted the event.
Each link has a unique “custom query” following the main URL. In the image above, this is “?affiliate=xyz”.
You can use this query as a condition in RightMessage for tracking traffic segments and using them to set custom personalizations.
Personalizations can include social proof in the form of testimonials that are most relevant to a specific audience.
RightMessage Works Anywhere
What if you could have unique landing pages and sales copy for different types of visitors?
Think of how your conversions might skyrocket.
RightMessage allows you to personalize pages right from your RightMessage account. All you have to do is install a snippet of code and your website will be ready for customization.
Installing the script:
From your dashboard, click on the “gear” icon in the top right corner of the screen:
In the drop-down box, click “View Snippet.”
Install the code snippet on all pages of your site after the opening header tag. You can do this with Google Tag Manager or by including the script in your template.
Now you can start personalizing your website!
With RightMessage’s visual editor, you can customize pages for specific visitor segments. All it takes is a few clicks to switch up the style, copy, headlines, call-to-actions, and any other page element you can think of.
Here’s a 10-minute video demo by RightMessage founder Brennan Dunn about how to personalize based on landing page with their visual editor:
Swapping out an image for a particular demographic takes three clicks of work.
Change the entire flow of your website if you want!
New visitors don’t need to be sent to your landing page. They can be sent to an opt-in page instead, and returning customers can be directed to a sales page.
You can even translate your copy to another language for a different type of persona.
When your personalizations are done, simply hit “Publish” and your personalization campaign will instantly go live.
RightAsk is a tool that allows you to gather more information about your visitors for further segmenting.
You decide what questions you want to ask, like “What type of business do you run?” and the question is displayed in a popup on you website.
Here’s what the RightAsk dashboard looks like:
The image on the right of the screen is what the finished popup will look like on your site.
Here’s RightMessage founder Brennan Dunn breaking down how RightAsk works:
RightAsk keeps track of the information you’ve collected about individual visitors from other sources like email campaigns.
This is really big.
Because there’s no point in asking a question that you already know the answer to.
Instead, you can use RightAsk to ask a different question so that you’re always collecting relevant data.
This allows you to progressively profile people with only the data points that you don’t have answers to.
Before activating your question you’ll be able to set color and style preferences.
You can also specify at what percentage of page scroll the popup will be triggered.
What’s that I smell in the kitchen?
Is that a delicious campaign recipe?
RightMessage’s campaign catalogue makes it a cinch to create highly-effective personalization campaigns.
Juggling several unique campaigns at once isn’t the most intuitive process, that is unless you have the help of a software like RightMessage.
They take the guesswork out of where to get started so that you can get your campaign rolling.
RightMessage’s personalized campaigns are ready to boost ROI:
- Cover each phase of your funnel.
- Optimize for conversion.
- Compare your funnel performance against others in your industry.
Their campaign templates are based on real-world funnels that have been proven effective at converting visitors into customers.
After you make a change to a phase in your funnel, you can see before and after conversion metrics like the ones pictured below:
It’s important to get rapid feedback on whether a recent change is increasing or decreasing your lead generation and ROI. RightMessage lets you do that.
Auto-segmentation is a beautiful thing.
RightMessage allows you to set up basic rules that govern the segmenting of you audience according to the parameters you set:
- Pages viewed
- Traffic source
- Demographic information
- you name it
Only serve the content that’s most relevant to that segment. You can even sync relationship data from your CRM or marketing app for your campaigns to target.
When you find audience segments that really work, you can reuse them when setting up new campaigns.
Let’s take a closer look at the many ways you can segment your audience:
1. Segment by Relationship
Thanks to RightMessage’s ability to integrate with CRMs and major email service providers, you can target users based on the custom field data and tags stored inside of them.
Segment audiences based on…
- Quiz results
- Purchase history
- And a whole lot mor
Have you used quizzes to get people to opt in to your email retargeting campaign?
You can use the quiz answers to personalize your funnels with RightMessage.
When you direct a subscriber to a new blog post, you can adjust the call-to-actions to match where they are in your sales funnel.
2. Segment by Behavior
What your visitors have done in the past is the best predictor of what they’ll do in the future.
Segment your audience based off of the pages and ads they’ve engaged with in the past.
If a user visits a product page, you can tell RightMessage to present them with a discounted offer and encourage them to become a subscriber.
Target visitors that landed on certain pages of your website first.
Here’s how to segment your audience using the “Pages viewed” conditions:
You can segment by the audience based on one of two factors:
- Landing page: coming from a specific URL on your site.
- Path: defining how the visitor flows to the page you’re personalizing.
If you want to define the segment based on the specific URL of your site that they originally landed on, select “Landing Page”:
Let’s say you want to personalize the segment for traffic coming from URLs that do or do not contain certain keywords. You can do this by making a selection in the box pictured below:
You can also do the same thing when you define your segment by “Path” rather than “Landing Page.”
By tracking the URLs that your visitors view, you can take their past behavior into account when deciding how to personalize their content.
Use dynamic call-to-actions to increase engagement.
RightMessage founder Brennan Dunn shows you this works here:
You can even factor in which pages they haven’t yet visited.
Let’s say that you run a health and wellness website.
A repeat visitor has read two blog posts and watched almost an entire video on weight loss strategies, but they still haven’t read your top-ranking post on weight loss.
You can make sure to feed them that post the next time they interact with your brand.
If somebody has visited your pricing page but hasn’t purchased, you tell RightMessage to retarget them with a sales page.
3. Segment by Referrer
Where’d they come from anyways?
RightMessage’s behavioral engine lets you segment traffic according to the website or ad that referred them.
Here’s how to segment your audience using the “Referred by” conditions in RightMessage:
Let’s say you want to segment an audience based off of the URL they came from. Select “Domain” in the “Referred by” drop down menu.
Copy and paste the domain of the site that defines the segment.
If you want be more specific, you can add a condition and target a specific page. In the example below, this is https://dailyburn.com/life/recipes/ezekial-toast-recipes/.
Personalize their landing page by inserting quotes from the content they just read.
It’ll make the transition to your site feel more fluid.
If they’re coming from an affiliate of yours, include social proof from the referral site.
People are significantly more likely to buy when they’re encouraged to do so by a familiar, trusted source.
Use the affiliates name and photo on the landing page to increase trust and familiarity.
Promote your virtual summit by customizing the landing page to speak directly to your affiliate’s audience.
Did they come from a Facebook ad?
With RightMessage you can easily reuse the ad copy on the landing page.
If the Facebook ad targeted men between the ages of 45 and 60, you can show testimonials and images that appeal to them.
RightMessage’s Smart Segmentation allows you to enrich the emails you send to customers with personalized content.
The customer behavior data that RightMessage bases content suggestions on are automatically sent to you CRM or marketing app. No need to update them manually.
By writing segment data as custom fields or tags in your integrated marketing app, you can send personalized email campaigns.
RightMessage “synchronizes your segments.”
In other words, they track visitor interaction from the very first point of contact.
When they subscribe you can use that information to personalize their content.
Even when users switch devices RightMessage can tell that it’s the same customer.
RightMessage ROI Reports
The more metrics the better, right?
But nothing is more important than your ROI.
RightMessage costs money, so it better make you even more money back. They make sure that you’ll never have to question if it’s worth it.
Watch this video to find out how RightMessage helped one of its users reduce his cost per lead from 2 euros down to 0.7 euros.
RightMessage allows you to define goals for different phases of your sales funnel:
- Opt-in page
- Virtual summit registration page
- and much more.
They prove that you’re making more money with personalized traffic by keeping a small percentage of your traffic unpersonalized.
When you compare the conversion rates side-by-side, the answer is obvious — RightMessage’s customized campaigns bring home the bacon!
Identify Big Buyers and Hesitant Shoppers
Not all customer segments were created equal.
Some are going to hit it out of the park for you. Others won’t.
RightMessage allows you to identify who likes to buy so that you can target them for upsells.
Other visitors will fall by the wayside without your extra guidance.
Give them the TLC they need and coax them along the customer journey.
The more relevant you can make their landing pages, the higher your conversions will be.
Fast & Secure Software
RightMessage uses Amazon’s cloud. The code doesn’t run on your server. Instead, it’s run by the web browsers of the people who are visiting your site.
RightMessage site performance benefits:
- Doesn’t slow down page load times.
- If RightMessage is experiencing problems, it won’t affect your site.
- Backed by Amazon AWS.
When your site loads personalized script for segmented traffic, it’s retrieving the file from Amazon’s collection of low-latency servers.
If for some reason RightMessage has a massive crash, the worst that can happen is visitors will see your website as it is without personalizations.
The site itself will be unharmed.
Integrates with Popular Email Service Providers
RightMessage integrates with all of the major email managers to analyze user behavior and add to your stockpile of data.
RightMessage works especially well with:
Here are some of the best ways to take advantage of RightMessage’s email integration:
- Tailor your testimonials according to visitor demographics. You can display testimonials that are most relevant to the industries of each unique visitor.
- Measure and compare conversion rates according to custom field, tag and segment. This should give you a better feel for who your MVP customers are.
- Protect subscribers from being shown unnecessary pop-ups and opt-in forms. They’ve already subscribed, so they don’t need to see that stuff.
- Increase affiliate revenue by doubling down on social proof from the brands visitors already know and trust. Customers who came from an affiliate site that they’re familiar with are more likely to convert if you emphasize that the affiliate is one of your biggest fans.
- Create a single landing page and personalize it based off of which email they were referred from.
Just How Easy Is It to Use RightMessage’s Email Integration?
Change any aspect of your landing page in mere minutes with RightMessage’s visual editor.
No coding necessary.
Make changes and then set them to display only when specific demographics of subscribers visit your page.
Tie the changes to subscriber data from your email service provider and let it work its magic.
Timing is everything when it comes to making a sale.
RightMessage identifies the segments that are ready to buy.
They use “liquid templating” just like ConvertKit does.
Their templating makes it easy to output data from your Hubspot or Convertkit account and implement it in each stage of your customer journey.
Always show relevant call-to-actions.
RightMessage ensures that your CTAs are appropriate for each visitor by using the data you’ve already stored in your email service provider.
Then they help you track and segment the customers in that list so that you can personalize their experience on your website.
Connecting Your ConvertKit Account to RightMessage
Login to ConvertKit to start the process of accessing your API credentials.
Click on the “Profile” icon and click “Account Settings.”
Locate your API Key and API Secret in the “Account Info” tab.
Now it’s time to add your ConvertKit API credentials to your RightMessage account.

Then select “Integrations.”
Click on the “ConvertKit” tab on the left side of the screen.
Enter your API credentials on the right and click on the green “Connect with ConvertKit” button.
What a two-way sync does with ActiveCampaign:
- You choose a custom field to sync with a segmented group.
- The customer group is segmented according to your auto-segmentation rules.
3. When they visit your site, RightMessage shows them the most appropriate content based on the segment they belong to, so there’s no need to ask them further questions.
Talk about seamless consistency between emails and your website!
Segment a Custom Field with Your Email Service Provider
Click on a segment group name or add a new segment group.
Click on the “Sync with your email marketing tool” tab in the segment group editing area.
Select the email service provider (ESP) you want to sync with if you have more than one.
Select the “Custom field” that correlates to the custom field in your ESP that you want to sync with.
Add a value that will be linked to your custom field segments.
All that’s left is to hit “Publish” in the top right corner of your screen!
RightMessage Right Bar
RightBar is a tool that installs a top sticky bar on every page of your website (or just certain pages) with a personalized call-to-action.
It’s the easiest way to present the right message to the right client based on where they are in your funnel.
The call-to-action is based on the data you have about the visitor.
- an existing customer
- an MVP
- or a subscriber to your newsletter?
It’s easy to set up RightBar and publish it to your website.
Let’s see what it’s like to use RightBar to change the call-to-action based on the data pulled from your CRM.
How RightBar Works
Step 1: Add the tracking script to your website using Google Tag Manager.
Step 2: Integrate with your email manager.
Step 3: Create your call-to-action funnel.
Step 4: Track how many conversions RightBar is responsible for.
How to Sync RightBar with your Email Service Provider
First, you’ll need to sync RightBar with your email manager/CRM.
In your dashboard, select “Go to Integrations.”
Select your email manager of choice from the options on the left (in this case Drip).
Then click the green button on the right to connect to Drip.
Select the name of your Drip account.
As you can see from the green “Drip” button, your website is now synced with Drip.
This process works the same with ConvertKit, ActiveCampaign, Infusionsoft and any of the other email service providers that RightMessage integrates with.
It allows RightMessage to communicate in real time with the backend data on consumer behavior that your already have in your CRM.
Putting RightBar into Action
Once your CRM is synced with RightBar, click on the “RightBar” button in the top menu.
The first thing you’ll be asked to do is select which type of business you have so that they can narrow down the types of templates to present to you.
You’ll then be shown the suggested CTAs based on the type of business you specified.
Skip over to your segment editor by clicking on the “Segments” button in the main top menu. Here you can see your suggested segments based on the type of business you selected.
Now it’s time to make adjustments so that they match the tags defined in your email manager.
Here is what a group of defined tags looks like in Drip’s dashboard:
Now let’s define a segment in RightBar that correlates to the “Joined Email Courses” tag in your Drip account.
Once you’ve finished defining all of the segments of your sales funnel, go back into RightBar’s dashboard by clicking “RightBar” in the top menu.
Here you can see all of the newly-created segments of your sales funnel and can specify what the call-to-actions will say.
When you’re finished deciding what your CTAs will say, all that’s left is to style your RightBar and activate it.
Once your RightBar campaign is active, you’ll be able to track its performance in your RightBar dashboard.
RightMessage & GDPR
GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulations.
This is the set of data protection laws that rule the land of Europe when it comes to handling the personal data of your website’s visitors.
Does GDPR apply to you if you use RightMessage to personalize your pages?
The GDPR applies to any EU organization that processes personal data of people within the European Union.
If you leverage personal data to enhance your customer experience, then you have to follow the conditions of GDPR.
Does using RightMessage breach the GDPR guidelines?
They wouldn’t set you up for failure like that.
Using RightMessage to personalize your customer journey is totally compatible with GDPR.
The exception is when you pull data from your email manager or CRM. In that case, the data is no longer anonymous and can be linked to specific living individuals.
These users will need to be given the following information at the time that their data is collected:
- The details about the data your collecting
- The period of time that you’ll be using their data
- Who the data will be shared with
- and the purpose of processing the data
Keep in mind that RightMessage never stores any of your visitor data in their servers. They simply retrieve the data from your email manager, process it, and immediately return it to the visitor’s browser.
How do you know for sure that you’re fully GDPR compliant?
The finer details of GDPR is tricky business and you want to be sure that you’re fully compliant.
Consult with a solicitor who specializes in Data Protection law.
Whether or not you’re compliant depends on exactly how you use the data you collect for your business.
Your main safeguard is disclosing to customers that their personal data is being used to customize their experience.
RightMessage understands that covering your back when it comes to GDPR can be a confusing process. Feel free to contact them at email@example.com with any questions.
RightMessage customizes user experience to dramatically increase customer conversions.
Users only see the content and call-to-actions that are most relevant to them.

- If RightMessage experiences problems, the worst that can happen is visitors will see your website without personalization.
RightMessage is impressive when it comes to personalizing online sales funnels, but that doesn’t mean it’s perfect.
Here’s the cons:
- Can’t really brand the popup boxes created with RightAsk. The customization and styling options are too limited.
- Software isn’t entirely accurate when predicting visitor personas based on behavior.
- If you’re a complete novice to this type of software and are short on time, you may have to invest extra money in hiring a RightMessage certified partner to help you get fast results.
RightMessage Alternatives And Comparison Vs Other Website Personalization Software
It might sound like a bold statement, but RightMessage really is the first of its kind when it comes to intuitive website personalization.
Others have come before, but they’ve really been nothing more than a platform for tech-ninjas to flex their coding muscles.
For the rest of us, it was still a colossal learning curve.
RightMessage bypasses all of that mumbo-jumbo so that you can create personalized funnels without the hassle.
RightMessage tiers its pricing into three unique packages.

Nope. RightMessage is sold on a monthly basis. Cancel whenever you like.
Is their help with setup?
RightMessage understands that you might not have time to become a personalization expert right out the gate. They’re happy to help you get set up and can even pair you with a RightMessage certified partner so that you can see results fast.
Will RightMessage slow down my site?
No. RightMessage is fast and secure. It doesn’t slow down page load times because the code doesn’t run on your server. It’s run by the web browsers of your visitors. When your site loads the personalized script form RightMessage, it’s retrieving a file from Amazon’s cloud.
What happens if RightMessage crashes? Will my site crash too?
Nope. RightMessage is backed by Amazon AWS. If they’re experiencing issues, the worst that can happen is visitors will see a non-personalized version of your site. Your actual site won’t be affected.
Can you use RightMessage for clients?
You can have unlimited client accounts housed under your RightMessage account. If a client has their own RightMessage account, you can opt to have them add you as a collaborator on their billing account. You’ll be able to access their dashboard. They’ll be responsible for paying for the traffic and service.
How do you decide how I’m billed?
RigthMessage measures the amount of daily traffic that flows through your site during the trial period. They then extrapolate that daily traffic to figure out which plan you fall under:
- Up to 10k visitors
- Up to 50k visitors
- Up to 250k visitors
- Up to 1 million visitors
- or over 1 million visitors
How are unique visitors calculated?
Your billing account can have an unlimited number of sub accounts. Each one is siloed with its own tracking script and data sets. At the end of the month, RightMessage adds up the traffic across all your sub accounts to determine your pricing plan.
What if my account goes over or stays well under my monthly visitor limit?
RightMessage will never automatically upgrade you to a more expensive account. They’ll reach out to you first and let you know that you’ve exceeded your limit. RightMessage understands that many industries are seasonal. They work with their customers directly to make sure that they’re always on the right pricing plan.
The Future Of RightMessage
RightMessage is working hard to make their software as intelligent as it can be.
Here’s a few of the things that they’re developing right now:
1. Smart Groups
Their next upcoming feature is called SmartGroups.
SmartGroups will be able to tell the difference between people who actually are part of a persona and people who just behave like certain personas.
Just because somebody flows through your site like a stereotypical life coach doesn’t mean they are one.
SmartGroups aims to segment the real from the fake for more accurate personalizations.
2. Preview widget
The preview widget will give you the ability to see all of the segments and campaigns that current visitors are using. This will make it easier to preview your campaigns and test different segment combinations.
3. More RightBar styling options
RightBar has limited styling options…but not for long. They plan to make RightBar’s design more customizable.
4. Integration with more email service providers
